Find Accredited Surgical Technician Schools in California

In 2012, California passed a law that stated anyone using the title “certified surgeon” must have completed an accredited program on surgery study. Surgeon program may result in diplomas, certificates or degrees. Even if you don’t plan on working in CA, it’s a good idea to complete an accredited training program because many employers require it. To successfully pass a surgeon training program, the student must take medical courses, complete laboratory classes and work in a supervised surgery setting to gain experience. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) has indicated that there are more than 20 accredited surgeon schools in California.

How to Get Certified in California

The California government also states that to be called a certified surgeon, the individual must also have certification through the National Board of Surgery Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or a similar recognized certifying organization. Certification can be obtained by passing the NBSTSA certification exam. NBSTSA certification lasts four years and can be renewed by completing continuing education classes.
