Two agencies oversee the education and training of surgical technicians in the United States. They are the Commission on the Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. Training takes about two years to complete. Surgical technology education includes classes and supervised, hands-on training in a clinical setting. Many education programs result in an associate’s degree in surgical technology. Surgical technicians can also obtain a bachelor’s degree.
