Two agencies oversee the education and training of surgical technicians in the United States. They are the Commission on the Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. Training takes about two years to complete. Surgical technology education includes classes and supervised, hands-on training in a clinical setting. Many education programs result in an associate’s degree in surgical technology. Surgical technicians can also obtain a bachelor’s degree.

How to Get Certified in Miami

Although there are no certification or licensing requirements for surgical technicians in Florida, it can increase employment opportunities because many employers require certification. After completing an accredited education program, surgical technicians can apply to take an exam administered by The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or the National Center for Competency for Competency Testing.
