Becoming a surgical technologist requires completing a training program in surgical technology. These one or two-year programs may offer either certificates or degrees. How to Get Certified in San Diego


Certification is not required by law for surgical techs working in San Diego. However, the state of California mandates that individuals must complete an accredited program and obtain national certification before they can use the credential of Certified Surgical Technician (CST). One cannot become certified without completing an accredited training program. The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) offers the CST certification exam. The Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C) credential can be earned by passing an exam through the National Center for Competency Testing.
