First, accredited schools provide you with the training necessary to work as certified surgical experts and, second, accredited schools are a prerequisite for certification. The most common accrediting agencies are The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) and the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). 

As a student in a surgical skills program, your curriculum will include lectures, lab classes and clinical education.
